Elda Bernice Cheek

Nov 2, 1944 — Oct 27, 2026

Elda Bernice Cheek, also known as Bernice Katherine West, 81, of Cape Coral, Florida passed away Tuesday, October 27, 2026, in Cape Coral. She was born November 2, 1944, in Los Angeles, California.

Bernice was a proud Native American woman of the Osage Nation who treasured her heritage and the traditions and values passed down through her family. She lived a life centered on love, family, and faith. Elda enjoyed shopping, spending time with those she loved, and creating lasting memories with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Her warm heart, strength, and devotion to her family were evident throughout her life, and she will be remembered for her kindness, resilience, and the pride she carried in her roots.

Thank you for the quiet sacrifices, the fierce protection, and love that never asked for anything in return. You taught us how to be strong when life was hard and how to find joy in the smallest things. Even though you are no longer here, we carry your wisdom in our choices and your warmth in our hearts. We were blessed to call you ours.

She is survived by her husband, Thomas; four children, John Cheek, Tommi Nemec (Mark), Calvin Cheek and Dan Cheek; eight grandchildren; as well as thirteen great-grandchildren.

Elda was preceded in death by her parents John and Delphine West.
