On June 6, 2026, Elizabeth Mary Mirabile (born Elizabeth Alvaro), passed away quietly after a short illness. In a gift from God to her deceased brother Mike, she passed on what would have been his 100th birthday. Born in 1932 to Michael and Elizabeth (Hamzay) Alvaro, she is now finally back together with the love of her life, husband Joey Mirabile.
Affectionately known as "Tootsie", she was a life-long resident of Albany county until she opted for the warmth of Florida last December. In her younger years, Toots served as a clerical administrator for various New York State Legislators, and was widely regarded as one of the fastest and most accurate typists in the State. She was also a master of the dying art of Shorthand. She also helped Medical School students by transcribing their graduation theses, a skill very few possessed due to the intricate terminology involved. Her abilities at the stove and oven were second to none, and she loved cooking and baking for her friends and family. Tootsie's most important contribution in this life though, was her love and dedication to her family. She absolutely adored being around her son, daughter, grandkids, nieces and nephews, and of course, her doted-upon great grandchildren.
Toots had two older brothers who loved and looked over their little sister, and her love for them was unparalleled. Anthony ("Joe") and Mike were a constant part of her life from her birth, and they were truly devoted to each other.
Tootsie is survived by her son, David (Alex); daughter, Susan (Steve Poulin); sister-in-laws, Edna Alvaro, and Mary Ann Valenti (Jim); nephews, Michael Alvaro, Joe Mirabile, and Bob Helligrass; granchildren, Nicole Tanzer (Mike), Danielle Petit (Andy), Samantha Poulin (Ricky), and Kylie Poulin; Great Grandchildren, Mikie and Delaney Tanzer, Izzabella Petit, and Estella and Bently Varno; nieces, Anna Maria Valenti, Nicola Hogan (Noel), Gina Valenti-Beall (Mark), and Angel Valenti; Grand-nieces and nephews, Francesca, James and Matthew Mesiti, Nicholas and Shanley Hogan, and Charles and Caroline Beall; God-Daughter, Nancy Vita-Maloney; as well as, Tootsie's very special friend, Heather Gebhardt. And of course, her two beloved pets "Toby" and "Tinka".
A celebration of Tootsie's life will be held in late July or early August. The date and location will be announced.
Anyone wishing to make a charitable donation in Tootsie's honor should consider Make-A-Wish of Northeastern NY or St. Jude's Children's Hospital.
Rest in Peace Toots... You've earned it.
