Elizabeth "Libby" Cato Smith

Elizabeth “Libby” Cato Smith, 80, a Cape Coral, Florida resident passed away Tuesday, December 30, 2025, in Cape Coral. She was born May 16, 1945, in Charlotte, NC.

Libby was a member of The Church of the Nazarene. She was a devoted wife, mother, and friend whose life was marked by faith, service, and quiet strength. She earned a Bachelor’s degree in Biology from Winthrop College with additional certification in Medical Technology, beginning a lifelong career dedicated to helping others. Libby retired from St. Mary's Hospital in Richmond, Virginia, after 40 years of faithful service as a Medical Technologist, where she was respected for her skill, dedication, and professionalism.

One of Libby’s greatest joys in life was music. She used her talents to serve the Lord as an organist and pianist for several churches throughout her life, blessing congregations through her faithful ministry and love of worship.

Libby was well known for her kind, sweet, and gentle nature, and for the bright eyes and warm smile that made everyone feel welcome and at ease. Her presence brought comfort, and her spirit reflected genuine compassion and grace.

Libby and her beloved husband, Craig, were high school sweethearts and shared 58 years of marriage. Their enduring love and commitment stood as a beautiful example to all who knew them.

Libby will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered for her faith, her service to others, and the love she shared so freely.

She is survived by her loving husband, Craig Smith; one son, Michael Smith of Pennsylvania; one daughter, Laura (Joseph) Woloszyn of Virginia; as well as two grandchildren, Erica and Leah Sobolewski.

Libby was preceded in death by her parents Carl & Lionel (Boswell) Cato.

A visitation will be held on Saturday, January 3rd, 2025 beginning at 10:30 AM, service beginning at 11:00 AM at North Fort Myers Church of the Nazarene, 6781 Bayshore Rd, North Fort Myers, FL 33917.
