Evelyn P. Newby, 84, of Westmoreland, New York, died peacefully at Hope Hospice House, Cape Coral, Florida on February 17, 2026. She was born in Sangerfield, New York on April 29, 1941, the daughter of Harold and Betty Yager. She is a graduate of Sauquoit Valley High School, Mohawk Valley Community College, and Upper Division College, Utica. She retired as a Grants Administrator in the government sector at Rome Lab.

Evelyn married the love of her life, Robert Newby, on January 25, 1963.

She will be remembered for her love of genealogy, photography, and her wonderful baking skills, making countless batches of her famous chocolate chip cookies for grateful family and friends. Evelyn also enjoyed traveling, whether it be snow-birding to Florida during New York winters, trips to England, Germany, Switzerland, New Zealand, and throughout the United States. Most of all, Evelyn found her greatest joy when spending time with friends and family.

Evelyn is survived by her daughters, Barbara (Christopher) Jasinski and Beth Peck; three granddaughters; sisters Lynn Kelley and Betty Jane Reese; sister-in-law Doris Gupton; brother-in-law Francis Kitchen; and special Aunt Gertrude Charbonneau. She is pre-deceased by her husband Robert; parents Harold and Betty Yager; parents-in-law Barto and Mary Newby; sister Dorothy Kitchen; sister and brother-in-laws Arnold Kelley; William Reese; Dorothy Scruggs; Charles and Jane Newby; Mary Ernestine and Marion Loyd; John Gupton; Kenneth and Janice Newby; several nieces and nephews.

A celebration of Evelyn’s life will be held on Friday, April 10th, at 11:00am, at Lairdsville United Methodist Church, 6925 Route 5, Clinton, NY 13323. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery.
