James “Jim” W. Mader, 85, a resident of Cape Coral, Florida for more than 24 years, and a veteran of the United States Air Force, passed away peacefully Sunday, April 19, 2026 at his home. Jim was born on May 14, 1940, in Boston, Massachusetts to parents Alexander L. Mader and Helen Rebecca Maker now deceased, and was a graduate of Randolph High School, Randolph, Massachusetts.
He is survived by his son James L. Mader & daughter-in-law Carolyn of Madison, Connecticut, and his daughter Patricia J. Mader of Cape Coral, Florida; his grandsons, Matthew Mader, Jonathan Mader and Jackson Mader; and sister, Emily Gough of Englewood, Florida. He also leaves behind his brother-in-law Paul Moses, sister-in-law Jeanne Moses, as well as many cherished nieces, nephews, and friends.
Jim and his late wife, Peg, shared over 52 years of marriage and raised their two children in Bridgewater, Massachusetts, where Jim worked as a computer programmer in banking and insurance. After retiring to Cape Coral, Florida, in 2002, they embraced an active lifestyle filled with local clubs, boating, cards, and dining out. Together they spent their years traveling with family and friends exploring popular destinations and national parks, camping throughout New England, and set sail on many tropical cruises. While they enjoyed their active lifestyle, Jim and Peg were always centered on family, with their greatest joy being time spent with their grandsons.
Jim was passionate about youth soccer and held various volunteer coaching positions in both Bridgewater and Cape Coral. He loved football and was an avid New England Patriots fan often glued to the television on game day. He also enjoyed watching old western movies and playing an occasional round of golf. Above all, Jim was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. Simply known as “Guppa” to his grandkids, he loved teaching them the nuances of Poker and Rummy 500, telling a funny joke, or sharing family history and stories from his past.
He was preceded in death by his cherished wife, Margaret “Peg” Mader in 2018, and his siblings Carolyn Harder, Marguerite Panarese, Helen Sullivan, Ronald Mader, Lindsey Mader, Edward Mader and Newell Mader.
The Mader family will have a small private Memorial Service in Jim’s honor followed by a Celebration of Life gathering in Cape Coral, Florida.
Jim will be laid to rest beside his wife Peg at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne, Massachusetts later this year. A Celebration of Life will be planned for family and friends in Massachusetts at that time.
