Kathryn Elizabeth Atwood, 78, of Cape Coral, Florida, passed away peacefully on April 8, 2026. Born on July 14, 1947, in Weymouth, Massachusetts, Kathryn lived a life defined by love, compassion, and quiet strength.
A woman of faith, Kathryn carried her Catholic beliefs with her throughout her life, guiding the way she cared for others and found meaning in everyday moments. She devoted herself wholeheartedly to her family, always placing their needs above her own. As a wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, she created a home filled with warmth, kindness, and unwavering support.
Kathryn's journey took her to Cape Cod, Massachusetts, where she built not only a career but a true sense of community. Beginning as a waitress, she later found her calling with the United States Postal Service. As Postmaster of the South Wellfleet Post Office, and later in North Eastham, she became a familiar and beloved presence-someone who knew her neighbors by name and greeted everyone with a smile. Her years of service left a lasting impression on the community she so deeply cherished.
She found joy in life's simple pleasures: tending to her plants, playing bingo, baking for those she loved, and getting lost in a good mystery novel or cookbook. She had a special love for animals, and her loyal dog Leslie brought her comfort and companionship in her later years. Kathryn treasured time spent by the ocean, watching the waves roll in, as well as the laughter and togetherness of holidays and family gatherings.
More than anything, Kathryn will be remembered for her gentle spirit, her generosity, and the way she made everyone feel cared for and welcomed. Her love was constant, her presence steady, and her impact immeasurable.
She is survived by her beloved husband, Leonard Thomas; her children, Erin Atwood (Russell Perkins) and Edward Atwood (Joseph Previti); her sisters, Joanne (Steve) Harvey and Linda Power; her cherished grandchild, Cameron along with many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Esther O'Hearn.
A celebration of life will take place in Cape Cod, Massachusetts, date to be determined.
