Mary Patricia Backhaus

Mary "Pat" Patricia Backhaus, 81, of Cape Coral, Florida passed away Wednesday, February 4, 2026 in Cape Coral. She was born June 22, 1944, in Baltimore, Maryland. 

Mary was of the Christian faith. She was a woman who embraced life fully and found happiness in the things that brought her comfort-good books, sunshine, family, and a perfectly chilled glass of Pinot Grigio.

Pat loved spending her afternoons reading, whether lost in a novel or enjoying a peaceful moment with her favorite stories. She was also an enthusiastic card player, always ready for a game and the friendly competition that came with it. A true lover of the outdoors, Pat felt most at home near the water. She enjoyed days at the beach, relaxing by the pool, and participating in water aerobics, where she found both exercise and community.

Above all, Pat treasured the time she spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Their laughter, visits, and milestones filled her heart with immeasurable pride and joy. She loved creating memories with them-whether sharing a sunny afternoon, playing cards, or simply enjoying each other's company.

Pat will be remembered for her kind spirit, her easy smile, her love of family, and her appreciation for life's simple pleasures. She lived with grace, humor, and a warmth that touched everyone around her.

She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew her. 

She is survived by her husband, Otto Backhaus; two children, Kelly Raphann (Jamie) of Maryland, Rusty Burton Backhaus of Florida; two sisters, Betty Dodson, Brenda Waus; one brother, Howard Burton; four grandchildren as well as five great grandchildren.

 Mary was preceded in death by one son, Chuck Backhaus; as well as her parents George & Rita Burton.

 A Visitation will be held on Monday, February 16, 2026 beginning at 12:00 PM until 2:00 PM with a service starting at 2:00 PM at the Living Faith Church, 939 SW 7th Ct, Cape Coral, FL 33991. The family would like to invite guests to remain after the service for fellowship, food, and drinks.
