Michael James Perkins

Michael James Perkins, 73, a resident of Lehigh Acres, FL, passed away Thursday, January 29, 2026, in Lehigh Acres, FL. He was born on March 2, 1952 in Connecticut to parents, Vernon Perkins and Barbara Goulden.

Michael was of the Catholic faith. He enjoyed yoga, biking, baseball, especially the Red Sox, spending time with family, always reading, and was a very intelligent man. Michael was a proud father to two children, Morgan and Riley and an even prouder Bub (grandfather) to his grandson Aiden. Michael spent his days enjoying the Florida sunshine and swimming in the pool with his grandson. His whole lifelong, he could be found sitting quietly with something to read to. Always trying to further his education and knowledge of the world Michael earned a Bachelors in Science from Stockton University and a Master of Arts in History from American University. He traveled to Europe and Canada in his early retirement, and was fluent in English and French, he even began to learn Spanish since moving to Florida. He had a long working career starting with his first job in the tobacco fields, he then went to serve his country in the Marine Corps and later went on to work banquets at the White House while attending college. He held a stable career as an asbestos claims manager at nationwide insurance for 15+ years, after which he “retired”. He continued to have many side gigs to keep himself busy such as working at the local ski hill (for the free season pass) and taking a position with the US census. Michael became a father in his 40s but did not let his “later in life” start slow him down. He left his children with many warm childhood memories like camping and watching baseball in the Spring and playing on the ice rink he would build in the back yard every winter. He is remembered to be the best cook in the house and even made working on homework after dinner something to be looked forward to. Although life continuously threw curveballs his way, Michael always remained a steady, compassionate, and helping hand to everyone around him. His witty sense of humor and always calming presence will be greatly missed by those who loved him most.

Michael was the oldest of 10 siblings and is survived by eight of them plus his mother Barbara. And Surpassed by his father Vernon and brother John.
