Neil Wood Walters

We are saddened to announce the sudden passing of Neil Wood Walters, 75, a resident of Fort Myers, Florida on Saturday August 22, 2026. He was born on February 20, 1951 in Mexico, Missouri to the late Charles and Alice Walters.

Neil attended Missouri Valley College where he majored in Communications and English. He spent his younger years living the adventurous life of a radio DJ (with his long hair and bell bottoms). His later years were spent honing and perfecting his skills as a printing press operator. He was a proud member of the printing community for over 40 years. Neil was also an experienced kayaker; something he did often with his long-time friend, Mike Pepin. He also loved watching wildlife, a passion he shared with another good friend, Bernie Jimenez. Neil will be fondly remembered for his outrageous sense of humor, his love of history and westerns, his eclectic range of music (from Jimmy Buffet to bagpipes), and most of all, he will be remembered for his love and devotion to his family and friends.

He is survived by his former spouse, Cindy Walters; His daughters, Catherine Walters of Naples, FL, Jamie Soriano (Gregory) of Fort Myers, FL; His grandchildren, Mackenzie Soriano and Mason Soriano; His siblings, Charlie Walters (Carol) of Keaton Beach, FL, and Ellen Ledbetter (Carl) of Kearney, MO; as well as his nieces and nephews, Sarah Ledbetter Woods (Bart), Megan Ledbetter Halferty (Clark), Eric Ledbetter (Ursula), Todd Walters (Cindy), Bin Walters (Jungway), and Samuel Walters (Jennifer).

In 2025, Neil lost his loving pittie companion, Athena. As a lasting tribute to the extraordinary friendship and unconditional love they shared, their final resting place will be together in the Gulf of Mexico (their ashes, of course…not their bodies).

Family and friends are invited to attend a Celebration of Life being held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, we invite you to donate to Captains for Clean Water. They are a foundation focused on restoring and preserving Florida’s aquatic ecosystems, something Neil felt very strongly about.
