Richard Thomas Wolney

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Richard (Rick) Thomas Wolney Sr, who passed away unexpectedly on August 27,2026 at the age of 77 in Fort Myers, Fl. He was born on March 15, 1949, in Detroit, Michigan to parents Rudolph and Lottie Wolney now deceased.

Rick is survived by his loving wife, Pamala L. Wolney; His son RJ Wolney (Kathleen), stepdaughter Rachel Weise (Craig), stepson Jimmy Patnode (Natasha) and one sister Cynthia Wolney. As well as his six grandchildren Luke, Madeline, Austin, Alyssa, Carter, and Evan. Rick was a highly respected attorney who earned his doctorate degree and dedicated his career to the practice of law. He enjoyed the excitement of hockey, both playing and coaching the sport. Rick loved being on the water. He was an expert sailor, participating in the Mackinac races in Michigan each July. He was passionate about teaching and championing sailing events, such as 1995 Laser Radial and Laser 2 National Championships at Grosse Pointe Yacht Club.

Above all, Rick cherished time with his friends and family, creating lasting memories through his warmth, wit, and humor. He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. We hope he is enjoying a boat drink in that one particular harbor thinking about all the good times. He was and always will be an unforgettable part of our family story. We will miss him beyond words, but we will love him forever. Family and friends are invited to attend a celebration of life to be held at a later date.
