Wilhelm Joseph Wittmann

Wilhelm Joseph Wittmann, 92, a resident of Fort Myers, Fl, passed away Friday September 11, 2026. He was born on February 24, 1934, in Munich, Germany to Wilhelm and Ursula Spitzweck, who preceded him in death.

Willi Wittmann was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend whose warmth, humor, and love of people touched many lives in both the United States and Germany.

Willi was married to his wife, Ingrid, for 37 years. Together they built a life filled with family, friendships, travel, and many wonderful memories. He was the father of four children. From his marriage to Ingrid, he had two sons, Michael and Andreas and from his first marriage, a son, Thomas Wittmann, who preceded him in death, and a daughter, Christina Kauschinger. He was also the proud grandfather of nine grandchildren.

Born in Germany, Willi remained deeply connected to his homeland throughout his life. He and Ingrid spent many summers there with their children when they were young and continued returning together in later years. Oberaudorf, Bavaria, held an especially important place in his heart, and twenty years ago he purchased a condominium there, giving him a home in the beautiful part of Germany he loved so much.

Willi also embraced Southwest Florida as home, building a life in Fort Myers and forming lasting friendships on both sides of the Atlantic. He was fortunate to call both Germany and Florida home.

Willi loved being around people and could strike up a conversation almost anywhere. Whenever there was an opportunity to sing, he would sing. He enjoyed playing Schafkopf, the traditional Bavarian card game, as well as three card poker. He loved dining out, but he was just as happy cooking a meal at home for family and friends and enjoying a lively evening around the table.

Travel was one of Willi’s great pleasures, but what mattered most to him were the people he shared life with along the way. He will be remembered for his unmistakable personality, humor, generosity, stories, and the warmth he brought wherever he went.

Willi lived a full life surrounded by family, friends, good food, music, travel, and laughter. He will be deeply missed by Ingrid, his children and grandchildren, his extended family, and the many friends whose lives were richer for knowing him.

His life spanned two countries, but wherever Willi was surrounded by the people he loved, he was home.

He is survived by his loving wife, Ingrid Wittmann; His children Michael Wittmann (Nikki) of Fort Myers, FL, Andreas Wittmann (Nicolette) of Fort Myers, FL and Christina Kauschinger of Munich, Germany; his sister, Heidi Schwarzbart of Munich, Germany; and his nine grandchildren, Phillip, Hailey, Mia, Liam, Audriana, Everlee, Mason, Nora, and Andersen.

He was preceded in death by his son, Thomas Wittmann.

Family and friends are invited to attend a celebration of life to be held in Wilhelm’s honor at a later date in Germany.
